Pay at the gate: $2.00.  This event will raise money for the Parks and Recreation Department.  We will have a festival atmosphere with all of the usual games for children, corn hole games, a dunking booth, and vendors selling soft serve and funnel cakes, to name a few fun items.  There are also fund-raising opportunities available.  Be getting your lounge chairs, appetites, singing voices, and dancing shoes ready!  For questions, please call Jackie Blackard at 1-276-358-2080 or Shirley Price at 336-573-9393.

A committee of volunteers is needed to discuss ideas for renovations to the Vera Holland Building and to the Stoneville Library building.  Contact Michael Roche, Director, Rockingham County Public Library at mroche@rcpl.org, call 336-627-1106 or contact Patrick Fitzgerald Librarian, Western Rockingham County Libraries at pfitzgerald@rcpl.org or 336-573-9040.  Let’s work together to update both of these wonderful facilities.

TOWN OF STONEVILLE IMPLEMENTS UPGRADED RESIDENTIAL RECYCLING SERVICES TO STREAMLINE PROCESS AND INCREASE CONVENIENCE AND COLLECTION

The Town of Stoneville took a major step in becoming a more sustainable community by announcing that it will be implementing new single-stream residential recycling services to streamline the process and increase collection beginning July 2012.

Waste Management’s single-stream recycling system will revolutionize and simplify the way the Town recycles.  Rather than pre-sorting recyclables, residents will be able to easily co-mingle all of their recyclable paper and mixed containers in one collection bin.  These recyclables will then be sorted for processing and reuse.  The convenience of Single-stream has been shown to greatly increase participation and recovery in communities where it is implemented.

“We are excited to bring our state-of-the-art and proven waste technology to the Town of Stoneville to revolutionize the way residents can recycle and ultimately increase their Diversion goals,” said Stan Joseph, community relations manager for Waste Management in North Carolina.

Waste Management will also be distributing convenient new roll-cart recycling containers for residential customers.  Since these new containers have plenty of capacity, collection will be very efficient and the Town will be able to have an every other week collection schedule effective July 2012.  This reduced collection schedule will have many positive effects such as low collection costs and minimal truck traffic and impact on roadways.

For more information about the new recycling services and collection schedules citizens can contact Town Hall at (336)573-9393, e-mail Waste Management at WMPiedmont@wm.com.  You can also contact Stan Joseph at 336-531-3285 or SJoseph5@wm.com.

COLLECTION

Service will commence on Tuesday 3 July 2012.  Please have your cart placed at the curb on Tuesday morning by 6:00 am, and allow a minimum of 3 feet of spacing from mailboxes and your trash receptacles. The handles of your cart should face your house and not the street.

HOLIDAYS

During weeks where an observed holiday falls before or on your scheduled collection day, Waste Management will collect your recyclables the day following your scheduled service day.  In cases of inclement weather, they will provide service as soon as it is safe to do so.

We are very happy to announce that the Town of Stoneville is in the process of obtaining grants that would allow us to have a walking trail and greenway!  Our first leg of the trail will be from the end of the sidewalk across from Hampton Street down to the Park and on down to the Mayo State Park.  We need positive feedback from our citizens as to the want and need of such trails.  In this process, a study is being conducted.  To be a part of the study, please take a moment and follow this link:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/C93G2G2

The Town of Stoneville would like to recognize the efforts of the Lady Lawn Stars and their parents for their volunteer service to the Stoneville Park.  In an effort to “spruce up” the Park’s appearance, Shane Webb volunteered this group to work on the baseball diamond, weed-eated, painted, cleaned, and nailed the day away on April 6th.  We recognize the value of their efforts and would ask that you show your appreciation by helping to keep our Park clean and beautiful when you visit it.  The Town of Stoneville also owes a special thank you to Tony London and Fidelity Bank.  Mr. London donated a beautiful, green giant arborvitae tree to the Town.  It was placed near the Rotary stage in the grassy area that belongs to Fidelity Bank.  This live tree will be a permanent Christmas tree for the Town.  We are thankful for the contributions that the Lady Lawn Stars, Mr. London, and Fidelity Bank have made toward the betterment and beauty of our town.
