April - May 2011 Edition

Welcome to the first edition of the Town of Stoneville's newletter on our webpage! We are very happy to be presenting our information in this manner. We plan to remain current with new and exciting information. We encourage Town's people to let us know of special events so everyone is "in the Know".

Here are a few of our upcoming special events

On the last Saturday of April, which is April 30^th this year, our merchants will hold their Spring Fling. It will be on Henry Street, with the portion from 770 down to the parking lot in front of Dollar General being closed. The event starts at 9 am and lasts until 4 pm. The merchants will be opened to the public and a raffle will start for an original painting by local artist Kathy Brown. The painting will be given away at the July 4^th celebration. Please come out and support your local merchants!

Our school wants us to know that end of grade testing is coming up. Please watch for flyers coming home! Also, the last day of school is June 10^th, with that day letting out at 12:30! We hope the students and faculty enjoy their summer off - Please watch out for our children at play!!

The Recreation Department is getting ready for its soccer season. They will be playing Saturday, April 30^th, at 10am until 2pm. Please come out and support our local teams! The Rec is also taking sign-ups for T-Ball now. please come to town hall to register. A fee of $30 per child is required. First come, first served. The Western Rockingham Chamber of Commerce, of which Stoneville is a member, will hold cruise-ins every first Friday from May through September in downtown Madison. please contact Robin Corns, Chamber Executive Director, at 336-548-6248 for more information.

The North Carolina Department of Transportations biannual cleanup drive needs volunteers! These helpers will assist in cleaning up North Carolina's roadsides. The work is underway April 16-30. For more information, please call 1-800-331-5864.

• On April 21, 2011, The Town of Stoneville was very proud to announce that Gerbing Heating Clothing, Inc. will be placing a manufacturing plant in Stoneville. The plant is promising 158 jobs within two years! Contact your Employment Security Commission at 336-634-5600 in early May for details on job openings.

• Water, Sewer, and Garbage fees are going up on the bills going out in June 2011. The rates below reflect what a 4000-gallon minimum amount will be. For citizens using more than 4000 gallons in a two month period, the total will be higher. Remember, this bill goes out every two months. The current bill, going out after Easter, will not reflect this increase.

• The May Town Hall pre-meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 3^rd at 6:30 pm., with the formal meeting starting at 7 pm. Anyone wishing to speak to the Board should arrive in time to sign up to speak. There is a 3 minute limit for your speech. Currently on the agenda is:

• Rockingham County Resolution for Recycling Electronics Amendment.
  
  
• Bids considered for Waste Water Treatment Pump Station - Bid opening will be at the Town Hall at 2:00 pm on May 3^rd, 2011.
  
  
• Resolution for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
  
  
• Resolution for Gerbing Building Reuse Application to the North Carolina Rural Center
